Folios 52-53. Monsieur Hocquart to [Newcastle]. Being very ill, Hocquart begs the addressee for his protection and for a passport to return to France on parole, as it was already granted to one of Mr de La Jonquiere's captains and to some of his men, but not to him though he is second in command after Mr de La Jonquiere. Believes that he has earned the British captains' respect for his protection of Le Diamant which he commanded and for the good treatment he provided for 600 English prisoners in 1745. Puts forward other similar arguments to plead in his own favour, as the return on parole in England of several English officers. Dated at Winchester [Hampshire]. 1747 July 23 NS [1747 July 12 OS]
