Folios 49-50. John Sharpe to [Newcastle], concerning the petition of John Allen of Newport, shoemaker, in Shropshire. Allen was in the company of Charles Birdall and Charles Culwich. The pair were heard to drink 'treasonable healths' and attempted to threaten Allen if he did not do the same. Allen had them apprehended and they are due to appear at Shrewsbury on the 13th. Sharpe believes that the prosecution should not proceed (at the expense of the crown) because of the late Act of Grace. Sharpe also recommends that the several Acts of Parliament recently passed should be sent to the various ministries in Scotland and their significance be explained to the congregations.
