Folios 17-18. Le Chevalier de Gannes to [unknown]. Has just learnt from Mr Carpentier that he is to receive 500 livres tournois from the addressee and on Mr d'Argenson's recommendations. Like 16 other officers of Mr De La Jonquière's squadron, he has been taken prisoner at the Cap Breton [France] in 1725. As they were all quite miserable, and though he knows his benefactor cannot help everyone, he nevertheless asks for the addressee's generosity towards Mr de L'Hoppinost and his son who is very ill. Dated at Salisbury [Wiltshire]. 1747 July 18 NS [1747 July 7 OS]
