Description

Folios 95-97. Minutes of Cabinet for 25 May 1747. In attendance: Lord Chancellor; Lord President; Lord Privy Seal; Lord Steward; Lord Chamberlain; Duke of Argyll; Earl of Chesterfield; Lord Viscount Cobham; Mr Pelham; Duke of Newcastle.

Consideration of the cases of six rebels [Jacobites] in New Gaol, Southwark [Surrey]. Old Laird of McKinnon's trial to be held at the next assizes at Carlisle or Derby. Other five recommended for mercy on condition that they petition for transportation. Lord McLeod to be kept in safe custody to ensure the forfeiture of the Earl of Cromartie's estate to the Crown. Prisoners remaining at Tilbury [Essex] Alexander Forrester, John Farquharson and Charles Farquharson agree to depart Kingdom and not return; Ronald McDonald to appear at Court of Justiciary in Edinburgh; James McDonald, Francis McDonald, David Hudson, Neal McAula and Allan McDonald to be discharged. Prisoners remaining in custody of messengers: Aneas McDonald to be prosecuted; Ronald McDonald old Laird of Clanronald, to be prosecuted in Scotland; Roger McNeille of Barra to be discharged; Alex [Alexander] McDonald of Buisdale, Ronald McDonald of Garifleuch and Malcolm McLeod of Terr in Rasa to be tried in Scotland; Lady Steuart, Lady McKinnon and Lady Clanronald to be bailed. Master of Lovat to be moved to Stirling Castle due to his health and allowed to walk about castle grounds. Dated at Whitehall [London, Middlesex].
