Description

Folios 11 and 14. Captain [Francis] Cayran to [unknown]. William Gibbin of?Stonehue [Gibbons of Stonehaven, Kincardineshire] one of 300 rebels [Jacobite] imprisoned in Tilbury Fort [Essex]. Five more prisoners committed to Fort by Mr Kirk, agent to the Commissioners. Ordered to London on 31 Jan 1747. Dated at Gravesend [Kent]. Enclosures:

1. Folio 12. Copy of letter from Thomas Ramsden to Commissioners for Sick and Wounded [Seamen]. Captain Cayran has orders to receive as many prisoners as possible from transports. Dated at Whitehall [London, Middlesex] 30 Jan 1747.

2. Folio 13. Orders from 'Commissioners for taking Care of Sick and Wounded Seamen and for Exchanging Prisoners of War', to surgeon John Kirkes, agent for rebel prisoners at Tilbury Fort. Directs him to move healthy prisoners from James and Mary transports to Tilbury Fort. Sick prisoners on the Mermaid to be moved when they recover. Signed by Commissioners Cha [Charles] Brett,?J Bell, Nath [Nathaniel] Hills, Cha [Charles] Allex and T Cayley. Dated at Commissioners' Office on Tower Hill [London, Middlesex] 31 Jan 1747.
