Description

Former Reference E81. Detailed examination of George Kelly, clerk, before the Committee of the House of Commons, concerning a [Jacobite] conspiracy, [the Atterbury Plot]. Seeks, first, to elicit guarantees for his own and others safety in exchange for evidence. He is questioned about his business in traveling to France over the past three years, boats between London and Boulogne, cyphers, bills of exchange and other sums of money, arms for the 'Pretender' [James Frances Edward Stuart], and whether he had dealings with a large number of named individuals, saying he was intimate only with James Talbot. Questioned whether he used the aliases James Johnson; George Hatfield; James Hatfield; Hatly; Hawksby; Jos [Joseph] Andrews; or Jacob Williams.
