Extract of a letter giving intelligence of [Jacobite] preparations 'in Cadiz and all other ports of Spain to throw a body of men into Great Britain or Ireland when the King shall have gone beyond seas', reporting that the Pretender [James Francis Edward Stuart] had met the Pope [Innocent XIII], and his intention to travel from Porto Longone [Porto Azzurro, Elba, Italy] to Spain on pretext of going from Rome to the Villa of Albano. Dated at Rome [Italy]. French. Filed with:
English translation of above extract. References to Cardinal [Mihály Frigyes] Althan, the [Holy Roman] Emperor [Charles VI], Cardinal [Francesco] Acquaviva travelling to Viterbe and Bagnia [Bagnaia, Lazio, Italy], and 'the squadron from Barcelona', none of which are mentioned in the French version, and have been crossed out of the translation.
