A Cokburne, Lord Justice Clerk, to Lord Townsend, concerning the detention in [Edinburgh] Castle and interrogation of William Erskine with details of the papers detained with him, including a letter in the [Jacobite] Earl of Mar's hand. Identifies 'H S' as 'Harry Sterling nephew to Dr Erskine who waited on the Czar [Peter the Great]', 'M__y' is James Murray, and mentions £2,000 credit granted to Mr Gerard, a gentleman in Paris, by James Gordon Senior, on Robt [Robert] Arbuthnot in Rouen and Mr Waters a banker in Paris. Also mentions plans to speak with James Johnston. Two copies. Dated at Edinburgh.
