Petition for mercy from William Webling of Gloucester [Gloucestershire] a prisoner in Newgate convicted at the Old Bailey and under sentence of death for the theft of silver forks and spoons received from 'one Gwyn', mentioning family in Norfolk, and a brother paying excise on beer. Enclosures:
Affidavit from prosecutors, Edward Cotton and Richard Duppa, now expressing belief in the innocence of Webling.
Affidavit from William Coatsworth, stating that he'd heard a man asking Webling to sell the silverware. Dated April 1719 at Fleet Street, London.
