[Samuel] Buckley to Earl Stanhope [Secretary of State, Northern Department], assessing the chances of an invasion of the west country from Spain by forces commanded by the Duke of Ormond in the name of the Pretender [James Frances Edward Stuart], mentioning Sir William Wyndham's views; 'Tory Gentlemen' Shirt, Flemming, Banks, Fowmes?, Chaffin, and Reeves meeting at Blandford [Dorset]; Sir Jacob Banks; Sir Coplestone Bamfield of 'near Exeter' [Devon]; 'Webber of Exeter, a busy fellow at the time of the late [Jacobite] Rebellion'; the reliability of Weymouth [Dorset] smugglers; Tory suspicions that invasion fears aimed at suspension of Habeus Corpus and increasing the army; impressions of Salisbury [Wiltshire], and plans to visit Lime [?Lyme Regis, Dorset], Exeter, Taunton [Somerset], Bristol [Gloucestershire], and Bath [Somerset].
