T Barlow to Joseph Banks MP, Boswell Court, London, warning of the papists, Jacobites and 'parties of ye Devil' who now 'swarm' at York [Yorkshire], describing an expectant mood of imminent invasion, with the Pretender's [James Frances Edward Stuart] health being openly drunk, and stating that arms have been delivered to York Castle [Yorkshire] by Lord Erwin, mentioning the mayor [?John Read]. Dated at Middlethorpe [Yorkshire, Durham].
