The examination of Abraham Kemp of St Mary Stratford le Bow, Middlesex, undertaken by Thomas Johnston, concerning Kemp's exemption from bearing any parochial office. Thomas Wilson, a cloth-maker, insists that Kemp is obliged to take up the parochial office of Overseer of the Poor in the parish. Kemp argues that because he is one of the Pages of the Presence he serves the king and is not obliged to hold any other office.
