Description

Prisoner name: Alexander McCully.

Prisoner age: 32 years.

Prisoner occupation: Weaver.

Court and date of trial: Cumberland Lent Assizes, Carlisle, February (or August) 1838.

Crime: Sheep stealing.

Initial sentence: 15 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Character Bad'.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): 15 supporters from Carlisle with one character reference. 62 supporters.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is of previous honest character; the prisoner has a wife and two small children to support, and recently lost two children; the prisoner was prevented from producing respectable witnesses [due to a legal referral].
