Description

Prisoner name: David Medhurst.

Prisoner age: 16 years.

Court and date of trial: Central Criminal Court, November Sessions, 1838.

Crime: Larceny. Stealing three silk handkerchiefs from the shop of George Arnold, Berners Street, Oxford Street.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Twice before convicted'.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner's father, Thomas Medhurst, 5 Berwick Street, Golden Square, St James's, undersigned by six supporters including two jury members and the prosecutor.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is young and from family of good character but kept bad acquaintances.

Other papers: Letter from J M Phillipps, Home Office, to Thomas Medhurst, annotated 'Not to be found'.
