Description

Prisoner name: Matthew Marwood.

Prisoner occupation: Butcher, previously farmer.

Court and date of trial: Liverpool Sessions [Lancashire], 25 October 1838.

Crime: Forging order for payment of money. Prosecutor, Thomas Briscoe.

Initial sentence: Two years imprisonment.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner with others. 11 respectable local inhabitants.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is of good character and was never before suspected of a crime; the prisoner had no intention of defrauding the Prosecutor and attempted to repay money when taken in to custody; the prisoner has already served three months in gaol; the prisoner has a wife and two young children to support.
