Description

Prisoner name: Simon Hargreaves.

Prisoner age: 18 years at time of trial.

Court and date of trial: York Summer Assizes, York, August 1829.

Crime: Housebreaking.

Initial sentence: [Death] commuted to transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: 'In prison before'.

Annotated (Outcome): 'In Van Diemens Land'. 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner's parents Thomas Hargreaves and Mary Hargreaves, Leeds, Yorkshire, forwarded with a covering letter from [Abraham Horsfall], Leeds.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's parents are aged and infirm; this is the prisoner's first offence; the prisoner is penitent and has behaved well since convicted.

Additional Information: The prisoner was stationed at Brown's River near Hobart Town, Van Diemens Land.
