Description

Prisoner name: David Lawrence.

Prisoner age: 30 years.

Prisoner occupation: Carpenter.

Court and date of trial: Hertford Quarter Sessions, 2 July 1833.

Crime: Stealing in a dwelling house. Taking scythes from an outbuilding belonging to James Nash of Breachwood Green.

Initial sentence: Transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: 'Character Indifferent. Respectable Connexions'. 'Conduct good on board Coromandel'.

Annotated (Outcome): Free Pardon 26 February 1838.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner's wife Elizabeth Lawrence of Whitewell, Paul's Walden near Welwyn, Hertfordshire, undersigned by 39 supporters including the prosecutor.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Prisoner's wife is under great pressure to support the family without the prisoner; prisoner's wife understood her husband had paid for the scythes; prisoner is of previous good and industrious character; prisoner's wife has means of providing a good start for them both on the prisoner's return.

Additional Information: The prisoner was on board the Coromandel in Bermuda.
