Description

Prisoner name: Richard Styles (or Richard Stiles).

Prisoner age: 22 years.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey, January 1837.

Crime: Larceny. Stealing a pair of trousers.

Initial sentence: Transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: 'Twice before convicted'.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner's mother Mary Trimlett of 32 Kinder Street, Commercial Road, Middlesex, undersigned by 12 supporters.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's mother is a widow and her son by a former husband has to support himself; the prisoner lost an arm whilst working.

Additional Information: Sent to Fortitude convict hulk. The prisoner was tried with Crosby and Marney.
