Description

Prisoner name: Stephen Hodson.

Court and date of trial: [Union Hall Public Office, London] 16 February 1837.

Crime: Assault on the prisoner's wife Estor Hodson (or Esthor Hodson, or Esther Hodson).

Initial sentence: Two months imprisonment in Surrey County Gaol or £5 [fine].

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner, and two petitions from Esther Hodson, prosecutrix (the convict's wife).

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is contrite; the prisoner and his wife are poor and unable to pay the fine; the prisoner's wife is dependent upon her husband; the prisoner was intoxicated at the time of the assault; the prosecutrix obtained the warrant hastily.

Other papers: Letter from [J W Lucking], 126 Chancery Lane, [London], forwarding all three petitions.

Additional Information: The prisoner lived in Union Street, Lambeth Walk, [Kennington], Surrey.
