Description

Prisoner name: Ann Cox (or Anne Cox) also known as Ann Urey (or Ann Wrey, or Anne Wrey).

Court and date of trial: 18 March 1836 [Somerset].

Crime: Assault. Victim, Sarah Wilkins.

Initial sentence: 12 months imprisonment in Wilton House of Correction [Somerset] for want of £20 sureties to keep the peace.

Annotated (Outcome): 'To be discharged and sent to an asylum as proposed by Visiting Justice.' Remission prepared 21 May 1836.

Petitioner(s): Visiting Magistrate [J Guerin], House of Correction, Taunton, Somerset.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner's health may suffer if imprisoned longer; she is insane; a private asylum will take the prisoner if she is discharged.

Other papers: A copy of the commitment of the prisoner. A certificate from two surgeons. Covering letter from [J Guerin], Visiting Justice.

Additional Information: The prisoner was from Chaffcombe [Somerset].
