CHAR 8
1858-1947
Between 1853 and 1947, the Charity Commissioners recorded information concerning charities that came to their notice by manuscript volumes. Unlike similar records produced by the earlier Commissioners between 1819 and 1841, these were not published.
The volumes give a comprehensive picture of the work of the Commissioners during that period. They include extracts and summaries of significant trust deeds, details of investments held by the official Trustees of charitable funds and reports on the financial status and activities of individual trustees.
The information in the volumes is arranged chronologically and indexed by name and place.
CHAR 8/1-8 are indexes, followed by the volumes. It was impossible to work out from the volumes accurately just what period is covered by each. Therefore the covering dates of the series have been inserted for each microfilm.
