The Medical Advisory Service, that had been part of the Civil Service Department until its abolition in 1981, became part of the Cabinet Office (Management and Personnel Office) in November 1982 and altered its title to the Civil Service Medical Advisory Service. Following a scrutiny report which recommended the merger of the Civil Service Medical Advisory Service and the Ministry of Defence Civilian Medical Service, the creation of the Civil Service Occupational Health Service (OHS) was announced in June 1986.
