Administrative / biographical background

The General Expenditure [GE] Division was created in January 1967 and existed until 1975. The Division was responsible for looking at public expenditure and public receipts in relation to each other in the national economy. Before 1967 all work covered by the GE Division was the responsibility of the Public Income/Outlay Division. The duties of the GE Division were separated into two sections in July 1970, creating GE [1], which took the lead on public expenditure co-ordination, Parliamentary supply matters, estimates and supply estimates, and GE [2], which dealt with all areas of forecasting.
