Description

Prisoner name: Thomas Stroud.

Prisoner age: 'Nearly 70 years'.

Prisoner occupation: Seller of magazines and periodicals by subscription, of Walworth, Surrey.

Court and date of trial: Kingston Sessions, Surrey, 1 May 1833.

Crime: Non-payment of a £20 penalty imposed for conveying spirits into the Marshalsea Prison.

Initial sentence: Two months imprisonment.

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): Thomas Stroud (the convict).

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Previous good character; he took the spirits to a prisoner who owed him money, being fearful that the debt would otherwise not be paid.

Additional Information: Held in the Kingston House of Correction.
