The Commonwealth Office's Aid Department, and its successor the Commonwealth Financial Policy Department, dealt with financial policy and aid, and development policy in the Commonwealth. The department was abolished upon the formation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in October 1968, at which point responsibility for Commonwealth aid and development policy passed to a new Financial Policy and Aid Department in the FCO.
