Description

The Treasurer of the Navy, though nominally a member of the Navy Board, was in practice an independent official responsible for part of the finances of the Navy, and in particular for the pay of officers and ratings. These letters are chiefly from the Treasurer's deputy the Paymaster of the Navy, and contain financial returns and statements.

When using the ADM 12 indexes to search for papers in ADM 1, documents in this sub-sub-series have the references: 'N. P. Off.' or 'Paymastr.'
