The Research and Planning Division of the Department of Employment and Productivity was responsible for providing professional and economic advice on current policy, and co-ordinated departmental contributions to economic forecasts. It also supervised the department's research programme, and in the early 1970s acquired responsibility for the development of psychological tests and assessment techniques.
