Sidney Wilfred SCOTT: New Zealander. Born in Ilfield, England, SCOTT was a former General Secretary of the Communist Party of New Zealand (CPNZ) and its leading Marxist theorist and publicist. Throughout the 1950s Scott found himself increasingly out of step with the views of the rest of the CPNZ leadership and repudiated communism in his autobiography 'Rebel in a Wrong Cause' (1960). His defection from the CPNZ was followed by the resignation of 100 other members
