The Oil Department dealt with all questions relating to the international supply, demand and price of oil, and relations with oil producing countries individually and through the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The Department was absorbed into a Commodities and Oil Department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on its creation in October 1968.
