Folio 699. Letter from [J Sargent], Inland Revenue, Somerset House, London, to the Poor Law Board. The Board of the Inland Revenue have been informed by Mr Smiles of Nottingham that Mr William Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, objects to providing a return form for the officers of the Mansfield Poor Law Union for the purpose of income tax on the grounds that he has had no instruction to do so by the Poor Law Board. He requests that the Board communicate with Mr Goodacre on the subject, unless the overseers' of the union are assessed at the head office of the Poor Law Board, which it is presumed is not the case, there is no reason why Goodacre should not have complied with the request.
Annotated: send a copy to Goodacre and ask for his observations.
