Description

Folio 663. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to Mr A J Greenhalgh, Chairperson of the Ratepayers of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, regarding the request from him and William Oates and John Stendall, Guardians for the parishes of Sutton in Ashfield and Hucknall under Huthwaite, in their letter of 30 June 1863. The application for re-opening the Mansfield Unions audit of their accounts for the half year ending Michaelmas 1862, because of the alleged erroneous charges made to the accounts by the guardians, have been considered by the Board and the decisions of the Court of the Queen's Bench in Reg v Chiddingstone, [Kent], [31 LJR n.s. MC 121; 2 B & S 294] and the present case have found insufficient grounds for re-opening the case; assuming that this could be done legally which the Board doubt.
