From 1998 Foreign and Commonwealth Office
The Legal Executive Branch provided legal advice to other Commonwealth Office departments, and policy advice on legal questions generally. This practice continued in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office where a team of legal advisers, forming a department outside of the formal administrative structure of the Office, provided advice to other Foreign and Commonwealth Office departments on a wide range of international legal opinions.
