Folio 306. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, acknowledging his letter of 12 January 1863 regarding the [Assessment Committee Act]. The Board state that statute 25 & 26 Vict c 103 does not contain provision imposing a penalty on overseers for neglect to return their valuation lists to the assessment committee within the prescribed time. However, if they have been wilfully negligent, it would probably be found that they could be prosecuted for misdemeanour under statute 33 Geo 3 c 55, for neglect of duty.
