Folio 198. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to William Birkett, Collector, Scarcliffe, Mansfield Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of a letter, dated 7 August 1867, relating to his accounts as collector for the parish of Scarcliffe. The Board state that and with respect to his statements, that the extra sum charged for stamps was to cover 'some loss sustained other ways', they request him to explain what loss he refers to, and whether the entry was made in the accounts by himself. The Board also request him to inform them whether they are to understand that the incorrect state of the rate arose from it not being in conformity with the valuation lists.
