Folio 601. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to [William E Goodacre], Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, stating the Board had received a communication from Manwaring, Poor Law Inspector, regarding discrepancies in the Receipt and Expenditure Books of [Mr Spencer and George Allsop], Relieving Officers of the Mansfield Union. The books did not contain any entries since the guardians meeting on the 10 February 1853.
Spencer's book had not been balanced except in pencil since the current quarter commenced and it had not been initialled before the meetings. Allsopp's book is not initialled by William E Goodacre. Both the officers had money in hand. W Spencer had £44 9s 11¾d and Allsopp £51 12s 11d.
Manwaring also stated that William E Goodacre had not initialled Spencer's Outdoor Relief Book for weeks 7 and 8 of the quarter.
The Board requests William E Goodacre's explanation and observation of the subject alluded to.
