Folio 174. Letter from Richard Goulding, Justices' Clerk, Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. He states that the rate payers of Sutton in Ashfield have adopted the provisions of the 13& 14 Vict c 99. The overseers have a rate made prior to the adoption of the act and will not be cleared of it for about a month. The present overseers will require another rate prior to their leaving office. He asks if under section 4 will they be bound to assess the owners of the tenements not exceeding £6 rateable value, or can they make their next rate as if the act had not been adopted with the next years overseers making their first rate to meet the provisions of the act.
Annotated: the next rate must conform to the new statute.
