Description

Folio 159. Letter from W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, acknowledging receipt of their letter of 13 December, 57162/1850 relating to the vaccination returns for the past year. He states that he complied it yesterday but missed the last post. He has sent it with the same post as this letter. He further states that the delay arose because since the end of October he has been suffering from 'a disease of the lungs' which he is susceptible to at this time of the year. Consequently he has been confined to his room for some time. He therefore had to request the registrars of births and deaths to defer bringing in their copies for the past quarter which prevented him from working out the number of births in the several vaccination districts during the year.

He notes that there are other returns and letters due from him and he will try to have them forwarded as soon as possible.

Enclosed is the 'Vaccination Extension Act' form listing the names of districts or of the public vaccinators and the numbers and ages of people vaccinated for the year ended 29 September 1850. Also noted are the number of births in the union during the year.

Mr Cooper, 1st District; Mr Paulson, 2nd District; Mr Bowler, 3rd District; Mr Lomax, 4th District and Mr Spencer, 5th District.

Annotated: return received see 57299/1850.

Paper Number: 57309/1850.

Poor Law Union Number: 337.

Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
