A Marine Environmental Protection Division (MEPD) was created from Fisheries Division 1 in 1985 to deal with work under the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985. The PDC series was opened in 1989 for use by MEPD to deal with policy surrounding fees and charges for licences to make deposits at sea and approvals of oil spill treatment products.
