Anthony Cracherode's and Attorney-General's [Edward Northey] reports on the case of Newgate prisoners Robert Scaresbrick, John Ashton and Thomas Gregson, outlawed for high treason in Lancashire [dated 23 July 1717]. The men wish to benefit from Edward VI's Act of Treason as they claim to have surrendered to Lord Chief Justice Parker within a year of charge. Report gives details of Act. Includes precedent; the case of Duno Talbot in the reign of King William and Queen Mary. [In Latin]. Copy of Northey's response included dated 8 August 1717, giving directions in case of plea being valid. Cracherode directs the men are sent to Lancashire gaol by Habeas Corpus and gives directions on how case should proceed [dated 10 August 1717]. Enclosure:
Rex vs. Scaresbrick etc [in Latin], with Northey's response in own hand.
