Tilson to [Delafaye]. Relates that a man 'booted and spurred' has been sent to Essex to stop a scheduled hanging the following day. [See SP 35/9/77] Requests letter to King of Poland is sent to him, with a copy; he will forward to Sir Richard Vernon. Encloses two letters [not enclosed]; one to be forwarded by post and one Tilson should deliver to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Advises that Captain Walrond's instructions may be altered and George Byng's may not be sent as Mr d'Iberville has given a 'promise and Declaration' that even if Jackson is not at Gothenburg [Sweden] when they arrive, he will definitely be sent. Therefore Gyllenborg [Gyllenberg] and family need not be detained on board if letters from the Regent [Philip II, Duke of Orleans] to Sweden about the matter are delayed. Dated at Hampton Court [Middlesex].
