Petition for mercy of Archibald Fotheringham, blaming youth, immaturity, and the bad example of others [for his association with the Jacobites].
Enclosing:
1. Certificate of petitioner's baptism on 28 Nov 1697 at Inverarity [Angus].
2. Affidavit of Robert Johnstoun [Johnstone] of Angus, stating that Thomas Fotheringham influenced his son to join the rebels, mentioning the father's escape from Wintoun House, Canongate, Edinburgh, and flight to France. Dated 24 December 1716 at Carlisle [Cumberland].
3. Affidavit of James Cheyne, as above. Dated 24 December 1716.
