Petition for mercy of Patrick Robertson, tenant of the Duke of Athole, describing his loyal attendance at Blair of Athole [Blair Atholl, Perthshire], capture and removal to Perth [Perthshire] by Marquise of Tullibardine's [Jacobite] rebels, and subsequent escape.
Enclosing:
1. Affidavit of Patrick MackAlester 'vicalaster' [signs McAlester, and also referred to as MackDonald] and Duncan MackCharles [signs McCharles], describing Robertson's service at Castle Blair [Perthshire], his capture while half naked by the rebels, detention at Mulin [?], Logierat [?], Dunkeld [Perthshire], 'Weems Little wairt' [Wemyss, Fife?] near Burntisland [Fife], escape while being rowed across the Forth with Mackintosh of Borlum, and refuge with ship captain Mr Hamilton. Also mentions prisoners in Carlisle, [John] Stewart of Glenbuckye and [John] Stewart of Foss. Dated at Carlisle. Declaration added by Tho [Thomas] Tullie of Ross-shire, that McCharles' testimony was 'faithfully translated... from the Irish'.
2. Affidavit of John Mackfarland and John Mackantire of Balwiddey [Balquidder, Perthshire, Stirlingshire?], who were with Robertson at his escape crossing the Forth.
