Petition for mercy from Doctor John Kinloch, of Kilrey [Perthshire], relating how he was twice captured [by the Jacobites].
Enclosing:
1. Affidavit of Charles Patrie, dragoon in the Earl of Stair's Regiment and formerly a servant of Kinlock's relative Alexander Nairn of Drumkilbo, describing how the petitioner was taken against his will, by rebels, to [the Earl of] Mar's camp. Dated 20 December 1716.
2. Affidavit of Andrew Scott, of Dundee, Angus, stating that he saw Kinloch a prisoner of the rebels.
3. Affidavit of Kinlock's former servants Alexander Rattray, now servant of George Ollivant of Clashbenny [Perthshire], and George Hutcheson of Derry [Angus], a yeoman, describing how he was taken prisoner, escaped, and recapture, mentioning the sick daughter of Lady [Carnegy] of Balgowne, and the 'north and south Inches of Perth'
