Folio 159. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to William E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, acknowledging an earlier letter dated 10 July 1847, advising them that the Mansfield Board of Guardians had suspended Jeremiah Allen from his office as collector for Sutton-in-Ashfield, on account of illness arising from insanity. The Commission ask for medical certificate as to his unsoundness of mind of Allen and inability to resign or discharge the duties of his office. On receipt of this the Commission say that they will be prepared to issue an order of dismissing him from the office of collector. Also the forms may be enabled to proceed with a new election.
