Folio 158. Letter from William E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, advising that due to illness (mental insanity) of Jeremiah Allen, Collector for Sutton-in-Ashfield, and his almost total neglect of his duties, the overseers and the board are suffering great inconvenience. Goodacre states that at their last meeting the guardians'
proposed a resolution, suspending him from his duties as collector. However, he states, he has not received any opinion as to the probable duration of the suspension.
Annotated: ask for medical certificate as to his unsoundness of mind and inability to resign discharge the duties, on receipt of this the Commissioners will issue an order of dismissal.
