Folio 153. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Mr Parsons, Solicitor, Mansfield [Mansfield Poor Law Union], acknowledging receipt of an earlier letter dated 26 June 1847, forwarding a bill, for professional services transacted by him, for the overseers of the parish of Mansfield, in 1842, the auditor having disallowed in the accounts of the late overseers. The Commission advise that they have no power to allow the present overseers to pay this bill. They believe the rule of law to be perfectly clear and well established that all parochial claims would be discharged in the year which they were incurred, and by the officers who incurred them. The bill was returned.
