The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) was launched in October 2014 as a new Defra agency. APHA consists of the Inspectorates from the Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) including the Bee Inspectorate, Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate, Plant Variety and Seeds Group and the GM Inspectorate as well as the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA). The agency is responsible for animal health and welfare and the regulatory and enforcement aspects of plant health and bee health.
