Administrative / biographical background

Modern slavery encompasses slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and domestic servitude. It is an international crime involving a number of source and transit countries. In the UK the Modern Slavery Act 2015 received Royal Assent and became law on 26 March 2015. The act extends to England and Wales, to tackle slavery in the UK and consolidates previous offences relating to trafficking and slavery. The bill was introduced to the House of Commons in draft form in October 2013 by the Home Office.

The Modern Slavery website is administered by the Home Office and supported by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
