The Interception of Communications Commissioner is appointed under Section 57(1) of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000. The Commissioner's function is to keep under review the interception of communications and the acquisition and disclosure of communications data by intelligence agencies, police forces and other public authorities.
