Former Admiralty reference, PRO S403.
Letter dated 19 June 1846 by John Stymes, Secretary, Electric Telegraph Office. Directed to inform you in reference to your letter to Mr Cooke on 10 February last, that the Act of Parliament constituting the Electric Telegraph Company yesterday received the Royal Assent, and that they are ready to take instructions of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty for the completion of works between Portsmouth Dock Yard and the Admiralty. Mr Cooke is unfortunatley kept to the house by a serious accident. It is probable he may not be confined above a week but if my Lords should require it, Mr Ricards will communicate with them in the meantime.
